THE VISUAL EXPRESSION OF CAD INTERIOR DRAWINGS - Aleesha Institute

Interior design courses in chennai colleges - Aleesha Institute

We are in the post-modern culture environment, one significant feature of which is the visualization of non-visual thing. This culture emphasizes the importance of visualization, intuition and perception in communication. Today there are variety of visualization demands in our conventional social and culture life. The visual expression of CAD interior drawing is a special drawing technique which uses CAD’s powerful graphic editing function to draw 2D drawing and appropriately applies the skill of multi-level expression of different elements such as points, lines, plans and colors to arouse audiences’ imagination and help them to reconstruct the 3D scene from the 2D drawings. By using this method audiences can easily understand and accept the work of designer that improves the communication between designer and audiences. The conventional interior design drawings include the following parts: 1. Sketch and concept map. Generally it is drawn by hand or with CAD software. In a hand drawn sketch, plan, elevation and interior space can be flexibly drawn out by hand. It is also possible to manually give the outline of design concept first and then evolves the detail design from the concept. The CAD drawing can be further made by specifying the detail of design based on the hand drawn sketch. Generally the detailed information includes the precise spatial dimension, the division and connection of each functional space, the location and size of furniture and structural pieces, the expression of design concept and decoration style in plan, elevation and axis. 2. The detailed drawings of the design. These drawings are drawn with the CAD software, including content description, plan, ceiling plan, elevation, section, etc. The detailed drawings must contain all the design requirements of the interior space environment, and implement the design idea with each concrete drawing such as plane, ceiling plan, elevation. And also the detailed drawings has made detailed provision for the design in every aspect such as design style, surface decoration, construction materials and dimensions of all objects in the drawing, which enables quantity surveyors to estimate the cost of project and construction units to carry out the construction by these drawings. 3. The construction drawing includes detailed design and enlarged detailed drawing. Drawn by CAD software, it is the join-detailed drawing of the deepen drawings. This drawing connects design with construction. It makes detailed provision to the materials and technologies used in the construction. So the information of dimension, material, structure, implement method and construction method must be clearly specified in the drawing. As the purposes of the above drawings are different, the corresponding requirements and implementation of the visualization are also different. Specifically, it is divided into two levels. One is the precise specification drawings, which can accurately guide the process of design and construction. The other is the visual representation of design concept and scheme. With digital image processing technology, the designer can highlight the design concept, main space and interface decoration in the drawings and thus let the audience get a clear understanding about the space design effect. Specifically, the implementation of the visual expression of CAD interior design has the following two elements: 1. Standardization of the CAD interior drawings This is the basis and premise of visual expression of interior design drawings. Nonstandard drawing is futile and useless no matter how outstanding the design idea is. The existing standard of interior drawing in China is “Drawing Standard for Interior Decoration and Renovation of Building” (JGJ/T 244-2011). It sets strict rules for interior drawings which cover drawing form, content, symbols and the method of drawing. Designers in China should implement the stipulations of this standard when drawing their interior drawings.
It is clear that the drawings are still unified and consistent in line style, font size, text mark and dimension mark after printing although the print proportion is changed. From Figure3-4 we can come to the conclusion that the standard drawing and the standard output of interior design drawing have a good visualization by themselves and can effectively convey interior environment design information to audiences. 2. Applying CAD visualization to the concept and scheme of design This is the key point of CAD drawing visualization. CAD drawing is essentially a projection of 3D object which can be something existing or something designed by the designer to achieve a certain function. So CAD drawing expresses the 3D spatial relation in a way of 2D projection that in turn requires audiences to image the 3D scene from the 2D drawing. Usually it is a difficult task for audiences. And the visualization of CAD drawing in a sense is to help audiences complete this imagination and thus conveys meaningful spatial information to audiences and increases the readability of CAD drawing. With the CAD tools filling and coloring, the law of form beauty and the principle of color, designers can easily produce drawings rich in levels, highlighted with the main space and space division.
With tools of region filling and color, designers can planarize drawings of interior design. So the interior space structure and the relationship between primary and secondary can be intuitively expressed. In the process of visualization of CAD drawings we need to pay attention to the relationship between brightness and color saturation used in filling and color. Generally speaking, low brightness and high color saturation are used in highlighted region to stress the expression. We also need to control the number of gray levels and colors used in the drawing. A good visual expression uses as few colors and gray levels as possible to describe the general structure of space. If there are too many gray levels and colors used in the drawing the highlight part of the expression will be weaken. Also the choice of color family should match the subject of design.
Designers can also use CAD map, clipboard or other CAD orders and the post editing of Photoshop to put figurative images of materials and furniture into the 2D drawings to obtain highly visual drawings, such as Figure 9. Figure 9. Elevation of an exclusive shop, nested with images of real green plants, furniture and models to figuratively represent the subject of the design. (Provided by an exclusive shop CAD design drawings) This kind of drawing is suitable for the purpose of highlighting the design concept or the interface decoration configuration. It proves valuable for the promotion of the design scheme at the beginning of a project. And it is also helpful to the circumstance of design exhibition or design contest where visual expression plays an important role.
Visualization is an important expression method in modern design. Interior designers should improve their artistic accomplishment by developing a standard design language and design philosophy in the process of interior space design. And then apply the language and philosophy to the practice of interior design and drawing. With the help of digital media and image technologies and CAD software, designers can produce high quality CAD interior drawings which efficiently convey designers’ design philosophy. Designers consciously enhance the visual performance of the whole set of drawings, so audiences can easily understand and agree the design of interior space and matching decoration. Therefore, the visualization of CAD interior drawings can effectively enhance the competiveness of design and raise the added value of design.
